Who says Johor is a good place to live in? With all those traffic jams, thousands of cars and the numbers are growing each day. I’ve even been told by someone from other state, that there is no way he’s going to live in Johor, to be specific, the Iskandar Malaysia. The idea is even insane to begin with, he added. And well, as a true Johorean at heart, I beg to differ. As insane as it may sound to him, it’s more insane to me if someone rejects the idea of not accepting the opportunity to live in Iskandar Malaysia.
Let me start my justifications with the urbanisation of Iskandar Malaysia. I have peers from other states in Peninsular Malaysia, and most of them admit that Johorean have modern appearances. That is one aspect of it. With the urbanisation rate of 66.5% since 2005, the development currently on-going in Iskandar Malaysia has transformed the Johorean into a modern community. Adapting to changes, mind opened towards ideas and the initiative to unite, are the traits which is visible among the people of Iskandar Malaysia.
The urbanisation occurring in Iskandar Malaysia was not done hastily without any guidelines, obviously. Even the urbanisation of any kampong in any area in this country is carefully planned by the ketua kampong and his committee members. And for the development of Iskandar Malaysia which is estimated to cost more than RM47 billion, it does not come easy. The goals are ambitious, and yet realistic. To make exist of livable communities that are active, safe and well managed, those things are achievable, with the help of none other than, the active community of the Iskandar Malaysia itself. And there’s more. Iskandar Malaysia has targeted to be environmentally friendly, well-built and designed, and also well connected. There you go; a place to live in, which is well managed, environmentally friendly and well designed. What more could a resident ask for?
No I am certainly not forgetting the security aspect of Iskandar Malaysia. Security is the top priority as one decided to settle down in any residential area. And talking about Iskandar Malaysia, the Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) stated that it is working on every aspect there is to ensure the successfulness of 46 programmes outlined under Iskandar Malaysia blueprint. In May 2010, an interview with the Johor Police Chief Deputy Commissioner, Datuk Mokhtar Sharif was held and he was cited mentioning a total of 2000 CCTVs would be installed by the end of the year, in order to ensure the safety of the investors and residents of Iskandar Malaysia. Not cool enough? How about the fact that besides the abundant amount of CCTVs, the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (Irda) would also build 208 Community Police Posts in housing estates? To sum up this point, I am also proud to announce the fact that Johor is among the top crime cases solved, which is 46.74% of 26,035 cases reported in 2009 which is above the key performance index of 20%. Not all figures can give you the comfort feeling as you read them, right?
A great city is not great without great minds. And great minds usually start with great education. And not to worry, Iskandar Malaysia has it all. Being named Educity, it is currently being built and developed in Iskandar Malaysia. A regional education hub and a destination for quality world-class education, it will be a future facility for our children to learn and grow. From kindergartens to universities, there are many options for the construction of great minds. There will be various options for them to choose from, close from home with all the facilities perfectly set up around them, or somewhere far so they can be apart from their families. It is for them to choose.
Another must for a great city to survive is its ability to stay green. We don’t want to be the last generation to know trees when we see them, right? I’ve heard a true story of a child of someone I knew. When being asked to draw a chicken, the child drew a chicken drumstick. And I believe none of us wants our children to grow without the proper education of the world revolving around them. And once again, Iskandar Malaysia is to the rescue. Here in Iskandar Malaysia, 23,158 hectares of land area have been reserved to this cause. Planting trees, watering them and watching them grow; those are truly normal activities for perfectly normal people, right? So why bother on other tedious things when the vital things that keep us alive and healthy are not being taken care of? Oh this is something lovely, isn’t it?
And back to business. As a global hub for investment, education and leisure, Iskandar Malaysia does not only provide comfort living for its local residents, expatriates will also get benefits from it. Through a programme called Malaysia My Second Home, participants were showered with plenty of benefits including renewable 10-year visa and the right to one tax-free car. This shows that Iskandar Malaysia care for the welfare of its residents, no matter where they are from. As long as thou are united under the roof of Iskandar Malaysia, thou shall be treated well.
Given an opportunity to live a modern, secured life, with the assurance of good quality of education and realistic goals, one does not simply give a second thought. In addition to that, the Greenland for future generation, and welfare for expatriates, Iskandar Malaysia is simply one of the best place to live in. By providing all the facilities, Iskandar Malaysia has indirectly united its residents, transforming them into Johorean, like you and me, and we will remain Johorean, and proud.
And come again, who says Johor is a good place to live in?
